How to Install a Multiguard Retractable Security Gate

Multiguard Retractable Security Gate Installation Guide

The Multiguard Steel Retractable Security Gate is a heavy-duty retractable gate designed for wider residential openings such as garages, workshops, storage areas and entrances.

Installation is relatively straightforward, but correct positioning and alignment are important because the gate runs between a top and bottom track.

1. Before You Start

Check that:

  • The opening height is within 2080–2100mm, viewed from inside.
  • Your opening is suitable for sill fixing

  • You have selected the Left or Right lock side, viewed from inside

  • Recommended Fixings

Fixings are not supplied because the correct screws depend on what material you are fixing the gate into. As a general guide:

    • Gate / grille fixing: Hex-drive screws are recommended.
    • Top track: Wood screws are recommended.
    • Bottom track: Wood screws can also be used. If installing it into concrete, use suitable M5 wall plugs with the screws.

2. Install the Top Track

Start with the top track.
Position it correctly above the opening and secure it firmly.
The Multiguard is supported by the top track, so it must be fixed securely and aligned correctly.

3. Install the Bottom Track

Slide the T bottom track into position beneath the gate.

The gate runs along this track when opening and closing.

Make sure the bottom track lines up correctly with the top track before securing it.

4. Secure the Fixing Post

Secure the fixing post (back section) of the gate to the side of the opening using the fixing holes provided.

5. Check the Alignment

Make sure the gate is plumb between the top and bottom tracks. A laser level can make this easier. You can also measure from fixed points on both sides of the opening to check that the tracks and gate are correctly aligned. Good alignment helps the gate open and close smoothly.

6. Install the Lock Post

Extend the gate across the opening to determine the correct position for the lock post.

Position the lock post so the gate closes neatly into it, then secure it to the opposite side of the opening.

7. Check the Gate Operation

Open and close the gate several times. Check that:

  • The gate moves smoothly
  • The gate stays correctly within the tracks
  • The top and bottom tracks remain aligned
  • The gate closes correctly against the lock post

Test the Slam Lock:

  • Close the gate firmly into the lock post.
  • The standard Multiguard slam lock automatically locks when the gate is pushed closed, so a key is not required to lock it.
  • Use the key to unlock the gate and check that the lock operates correctly from both sides.
