How to Install a Homestyle Security Gate

The Homestyle Steel Shootbolt Security Gate is designed for straightforward DIY installation using basic tools. Follow the steps below to install your gate securely and ensure smooth operation.

🔧 Tools Required

• 🛠️ Drill and drill bits (timber or masonry)
• 🔩 Screwdriver
• ✏️ Pencil or marker
• 📏 Measuring tape
• 📐 Spirit level
• 🧱 Wall plugs and screws (included)

Step 1: Position the Gate Frame

• 🚪 Hold the gate frame in position within the doorway.
• 📐 Use a spirit level to ensure it is straight and plumb.
• 🔄 Confirm the gate can swing open freely without obstruction.
• ✏️ Mark all fixing-hole positions.

Step 2: Drill the Fixing Holes

• 🧱 Remove the gate and drill holes at the marked locations.
• 🔩 Insert wall plugs if fixing into concrete, brick, or blockwork.
• ✔️ Remove any dust or debris before installation.

Step 3: Secure the Hinge Side

• 🔧 Reposition the gate frame.
• 🔩 Fix the hinge side securely using the supplied screws.
• ✔️ Check that the gate swings smoothly before continuing.

Step 4: Align and Secure the Locking Side

• 🚪 Close the gate and check alignment.
• 🎯 Ensure the shootbolts align with their intended locking positions.
• 🔩 Secure the lock-side frame firmly.
• ✔️ Confirm the gate remains level after tightening.

Step 5: Install the Shootbolt Receivers

• ↕️ Extend the shootbolts to identify the top and bottom receiver locations.
• ✏️ Mark the receiver positions.
• 🔩 Install the receivers at the marked points.
• ✔️ Verify that the shootbolts engage and retract smoothly.

Step 6: Install the Handle and Lock

• 🔐 Fit the handle and lock assembly using the pre-drilled holes.
• 🔧 Tighten all fasteners securely.
