How to Measure

Choosing the right security product starts with measuring the opening you want to protect. In most cases, you only need two measurements:

  • Width – the distance across the opening
  • Height – the distance from the bottom to the top of the opening

Measure the opening itself, not the glass or moving parts of the window or door.

Two Common Installation Methods

  • Sill Fix (Reveal Fix)

    The security product is installed inside the frame, running parallel to the window or door.

    • Strongest installation method
    • Cleaner appearance
    • Harder to remove from outside

    Measure:

    • Inside frame width
    • Inside frame height

  • Face Fix (Face Fit)

    The security product is installed onto the face of the frame or wall surface, sitting outside the opening.

    • Useful when the reveal is too shallow
    • Can fit openings where inside mounting is not possible
    • Common for some doors and windows

    Measure:

    • Overall opening width
    • Overall opening height

    Because the product sits outside the opening, the required size may differ from a reveal-fit installation.
