Overview
The RDF Roller Shutter Protection Lockdown with Removable Anchor provides strong and practical roller door security with added everyday flexibility. Designed to help protect vulnerable ground-level access points, it creates a strong locking position for roller shutters, garage doors, and storage access areas while allowing the anchor bolt to be removed when unrestricted access is needed. Its heavy-duty galvanised steel construction and tamper-resistant housing help improve protection against cutting, prying, and forced entry attempts, making it suitable for homes, garages, workshops, storage areas, and commercial properties.

How to Install RDF Roller Shutter Protection Lockdown
Tools Required
- Marker pen – To mark drilling locations on the roller shutter and concrete floor.
- Electric drill – To drill fixing holes in the roller shutter.
- Hammer drill – To drill the anchor hole in the concrete floor.
- Metal drill bits – Sized to suit the supplied through-bolts.
- 25mm masonry drill bit – For the removable version's anchor sleeve (81mm drilling depth).
- Smaller masonry drill bit (optional) – For drilling a pilot hole.
- Hammer and setting tool – To install and secure the anchor sleeve.
- Spanner or socket wrench – To tighten the housing's nuts and bolts.
Note: For the fixed version, use the masonry drill bit size and drilling depth specified for the supplied M20 eye anchor bolt. A 25mm hole is only specified for the removable version.

Step 1: Position the Housing
Close the roller shutter completely and determine the location where the RDF housing will be installed.
The housing should be positioned so the anchor aligns correctly with the bottom rail of the roller door.

Step 2: Secure the Housing
Drill the marked holes in the roller shutter door.
Position the RDF housing over the drilled holes and secure it using the supplied through-bolts, backing plate, nuts, and washers.
Tighten all fixings firmly to ensure the housing is securely attached to the door.
A firmly secured, visibly robust housing can also act as a deterrent to potential intruders.

Step 3: Mark the Drilling Location for the anchor bolt
Using the housing as a guide, mark the location for the anchor sleeve hole.
Double-check alignment before drilling to ensure the anchor engages smoothly when the door is locked.

Step 4: Drill the Anchor Hole
The drilling requirements depend on which RDF version you are installing.
For the Removable Version:
- Drill a hole for the sleeve housing using a 25mm drill bit.
- The recommended drilling depth is 81mm, approximately the same depth as the sleeve housing.
- You may start with a smaller pilot hole if preferred.
For the Fixed Version:
- Drill a hole at the marked position to accommodate the fixed anchor bolt.
- Ensure the hole size and depth match the specifications of the supplied anchor bolt.

Step 5: Install the Sleeve Housing or Anchor Bolt
For the Removable Version:
- Insert the sleeve housing into the drilled hole.
- Ensure the sleeve housing is properly seated and aligned to receive the removable anchor bolt.

For the Fixed Version:
- Install the fixed anchor bolt directly into the prepared hole.
- No sleeve housing is required for the fixed version.

Step 6: Test the Locking System
Insert the anchor and verify that:
- The anchor engages smoothly
- The roller door cannot be lifted
- The locking system operates correctly
- All fixings remain secure

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you start with a smaller pilot drill bit?
You can use a smaller drill bit to mark the location before drilling.
However, in most installations we drill directly using the required 25mm drill bit.
How deep should the hole be drilled for the anchor sleeve?
The hole should be drilled to approximately the same depth as the anchor sleeve.
For the RDF system shown in the video, the recommended drilling depth is 81mm.
